The institution's roots can be traced to the Genesee Wesleyan Seminary. SU is also a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference. SU is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for all NCAA Division I athletics, except for the men's rowing and women's ice hockey teams. Syracuse University athletic teams, the Orange, participate in 20 intercollegiate sports.
